Guinness names Filipino as world’s shortest man
A poor Filipino blacksmith’s son who stands less than two feet (60 centimeters) tall was declared the world’s shortest man by Guinness World Records on his 18th birthday last June 12, sparking a celebration in his far-flung hometown.
The title was bestowed on Junrey Balawing in Sindangan in the southern Philippines, with Balawing’s parents, villagers and officials showering the coastal town’s newly famous resident with a feast, a cake, balloons and cash gifts.
Balawing measured 23.5 inches (60 centimeters) during the ceremony attended by about 100 villagers and journalists. Guinness World Records representative Craig Glenday presented Balawing with official recognition of his status as the shortest adult man in the world.
The Wedding Singer
Pag-Ibig
By Noel Cabangon, (Original by the Apo Hiking Society).
Filmed at Fernbrook Gardens, Bacoor, Cavite. December, 2010.
Noel Cabangon jokes about it from time to time: “Salamat sa mga bumili ng album ko… kahit galing pa kayo ng Quiapo.” The audience laughs a bit, some are guilty.
The truth is, we see we buy. Director Peque Gallaga set the double standard when he said, “I’m all for western piracy.” In a weird way that was kind of patriotic for him, if not misguided.
Are Filipino consumers burdened with the same questions as they pass by those numerous street vendors hawking their dibidi copies? Would you pass up a copy of Oro, Plata, Mata sold by a vendor for 30 bucks in front of the AstroVision branch which has it at P299?
Don’t steal from fellow Pinoys but, it’s OK to pirate Hollywood. That’s the gist of Gallaga’s quote in an article published in the PDI on July 9, 2005. Although, not everyone can make that distinction. A cheap CD on the street will always be a cheap CD on the street.
Here’s what I know. Noel’s performance here only reinforced my belief in the Filipino Artist. It’s why I will continue to support original OPM products.

Pinoy Tumblr.: A Letter to Filipina Women
Dear Sister,
I know I’m biased, but I think you are one of the most beautiful women in the world. You and I come from bronze sunsets and islands, of banana leaves and sampaguitas, your grace innate like the waves of the Pacific charting your way back home.
And as you know, the Filipina woman…
